By now most of you probably know
that Gritman Medical
Center is acquiring the Moscow Federal Building. The federal
building is attractive strategically for the hospital in that it:
w
Has 43,049 square feet of net rentable space, of which 9,887
are currently vacant.
w
Provides parking for 108 vehicles.
w
Provides short-term and long-term options for meeting Grit-
man’s facility needs.
w
Allows Gritman to grow its presence in downtown Moscow.
w
Provides Gritman space to expand services and continue its
commitment to the community.
Committed to downtown.
Gritman Medical Center has been in downtown Moscow
for more than 100 years and is landlocked at its 700 S. Main St. location. Our board of
directors recommitted to remaining downtown in 2004 when 52,000 square feet were
added for the new Family Birth Center, Outpatient Lab, Outpatient Clinics, Women’s
Imaging Center, Inpatient Unit, Critical Care Unit and helipad.
New facility master plan.
We have been developing a new facility master plan, and
the federal building will play a strategic role in the plan. As a healthcare facility, we
require additional space to grow. The building will enable us to continue o ering and
expanding patient services and to continue recruiting physicians.
The federal building can provide solutions to hospital space issues. In the long
term, the land provides options to support Gritman’s strategic planning and facility
needs. We hope that all of the current tenants will stay in the facility, and we look
forward to working with them on improvements as needed.
New services.
By spring we will provide a new service: wound care.Wounds come in a
variety of shapes and sizes and can be chronic or acute. Each woundmust be approached
with consideration for its unique characteristics and how best to optimally heal.
We will also expand our behavioral health services. Watch our website for details.
Troy Clinic update.
Thank you to everyone who helped celebrate theTroy Clinic dedica-
tion in October. The Drury family andMoscow Family Medicine were honored at the event
for their legacy of service to the community.
Omer Drury, MD, was Troy’s rst physician,
practicing medicine at the Troy Clinic beginning
in 1949. From 1956 through 1958, he practiced
medicine in the Navy and then returned to full-
time practice in Troy, until he retired in 1989.
Following Dr. Drury’s retirement, Moscow
Family Medicine has continued his tradition of
providing exceptional medical care at the clinic
for 22 years, from 1990 to 2012.
Troy Mayor KenWhitney joined Connie
Osborn, Chief Quality O cer at Gritman Medi-
cal Center, and me in recognizing those who
contributed to making the Troy Clinic a vital
part of the area over the years.
Have a wonderful new year!
