ESPECIALLY
in rural areas,
healthcare partnerships can be vital
for improving the health of our com-
munities. As a not-for-pro t hospital,
Gritman Medical Center has a long
tradition of working with others. e
Je & Becky Martin Community
Wellness Center is home to three
great community organizations.
Family Promise
Gritman is working with Family
Promise by providing o ce space
for a Day Center at the Martin
Wellness Center through a two-year
lease agreement. Family Promise
provides shelter to homeless families
in our community while helping
people achieve lasting independence.
ere, families will be able to do job
searches, receive case management as-
sistance, take showers and do laundry.
Family Promise expects to serve
three to four families at one time.
Typically, families are able to move
into sustainable living situations
within eight to nine weeks with help
from other Family Promise organi-
zations around the nation.

Backyard Harvest
A true local success story, Back-
yard Harvest (BYH) began when its
founder, Amy Grey, learned that the
food pantries weren’t sure how to
distribute the fresh food she wanted
to donate. Since 2006, the mainly
volunteer-run organization has
worked to overcome hunger; improve
health and nutrition; and increase
access to fresh, local, healthy produce
for all community members.
In 2012, Backyard Harvest found
a home for its main o ce and sta in
the Martin Wellness Center. “We feel
fortunate to have a connection with
Gritman and the Martin Community
Center,” says BYH Board Chair Peggy
Jenkins. “Our missions—to keep
community members healthy and
connected—are very well-aligned.”
