Honoring a
beloved CEO
FOUR
years ago, we lost our
President and CEO Je Martin, who
worked for a decade to transform
Gritman and Moscow for the bet-
ter. Now, we are working on a wind
sculpture garden to honor him and
his record of achievement.
Je once attended an Idaho Hos-
pital Association conference in Sun
Valley and admired the rotating metal
wind sculptures he saw there. Four
years a er his death in a car accident,
three similar sculptures will honor his
leadership and contributions and cre-
ate a local landmark with public art.
“We hope the Je Martin Memo-
rial Garden will inspire everyone to
carry forward his commitment to
public health and service, economic
development and improving the
quality of life in our communities,”
said Gritman CEO Kara Besst. “Je
truly admired those wind sculptures
and likely would have installed some
at Gritman.”
e garden is expected to be dedi-
cated in mid-October. e garden
will feature new landscaping and
benches and a monument featuring
Je ’s catchphrase, “How can I help
you today?”
Je came to Gritman in 1999 as
chief nancial o cer and became
President and CEO in 2000. During
his 11 years at Gritman, he served
on many local and statewide boards

The sculptures are made of steel and will be about 17, 21 and 28 feet tall when
installed.

The sculptures “o er a comforting release from our fast-paced lives with their
serenity and playfulness,”said designer and sculptor LymanWhitaker, of Utah.

The Gritman Medical Center Auxiliary, along with generous anonymous donors,
enabled the Gritman Medical Center Foundation to purchase the sculptures,
and donations from the public are funding the construction, installation and
landscaping.

The garden is being built in the landscaped strip between Therapy Solutions
and the main hospital, right o the College Street/Main Street entrance.
