IMAGE
is everything. This
is especially true with diagnostic
imaging. Higher resolution images
help radiologists and physicians
accurately diagnose injury, illness
and disease, which results in better
patient care.
In order to provide our patients
with the most up-to-date diagnostic
imaging services, Gritman Medi-
cal Center recently purchased the
Aquilion 128 from Toshiba America
Medical Systems, Inc.—an advanced
computed tomography (CT) system.
The new system can quickly scan
any region of the body for injury in
just seconds, providing the essential
information needed to diagnosis and
treat patients no matter if it’s in the
emergency room or inpatient and
outpatient care.
Seeing is believing
In addition to fast CT scans,
Gritman expects to significantly
increase its exam capacity—which
means more patients can receive the
treatment they need faster and be re-
ferred to surgery or discharged from
the hospital. In an emergency room
setting, when every second counts,
the Aquilion 128 scanner will al-
low physicians to quickly identify
injuries to the
internal organs
and make a con-
fident diagnosis.
The new CT
system features Toshiba’s Adaptive
Iterative Dose Reduction 3-D (AIDR
3-D), which allows CT technologists
to achieve diagnostic image quality
at the lowest possible radiation dose.
Patients undergoing CT imaging
have different needs depending on
their size and shape and on the diag-
nostic task. AIDR 3-D ensures only
the minimum radiation exposure is
used to accomplish the task at hand.
“Toshiba’s AIDR 3-D reduces
radiation dose, enabling safer CT ex-
ams for patients, while maintaining
the image quality needed for diagno-
ses,” explains Scott Nelson, Director
of Gritman Diagnostic Imaging.
“Combining Toshiba’s AIDR 3-D
software with the Aquilion 128 helps
our facility provide the best possible
patient care.”
Installation of the new CT scan-
ner began in
June and is
expected to be
completed by
August. A mo-
bile CT unit will be placed on site
to deliver uninterrupted service for
outpatient and emergency exams.
